This year, the Girl Scouts celebrate the "Year of Impact", where we recognize the heart and soul of our movement—our volunteers. This Volunteer Appreciation Month, we shine a spotlight on the extraordinary individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and passion to mentor and empower the next generation of leaders.
Our volunteers are the role models who inspire laughter, confidence, and ambition in every Girl Scout they meet. They are the steadfast supporters who encourage our girls to raise their voices, chase their dreams, and embrace their individuality.
We honor the impact of our volunteers—not just on the girls they guide but on the communities they transform. From exploring the great outdoors to delving into the world of STEM, from fostering mental wellness to nurturing entrepreneurial spirits, our volunteers' contributions are as diverse as they are significant. They are the builders of a community where every girl is celebrated, every voice is heard, and every dream is valid.
So, to our existing volunteers, we say thank you. Your authenticity and dedication have helped Girl Scouts become their best selves. And to our future volunteers, we say welcome. Discover the joy of making a difference and the fulfillment that comes from helping girls find their voice. Join us in building a community where every girl knows she is valued, and her potential is limitless. Let's make this year truly impactful—together.
Earlier this year, we asked people to submit stories of how Girl Scout volunteers have left a lasting impact on their communities. We proudly shine the spotlight on seven of their stories.
Cara Armour’s dedication is celebrated within the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta Riverwood Service Unit. Her role as the Annual Fund Chair is pivotal, where she brings energy and commitment in fueling our mission to champion girl ambition. Her unwavering support and collaborative spirit have not only uplifted the girls in her troop but have also inspired her fellow leaders and strengthened our entire community.
Join us in celebrating Cara, whose can-do spirit and generous heart embody the essence of The Girl Scouts.
Elizabeth's brings an unwavering commitment to empowering young girls. As a General Practice Dentist and Gold Award Girl Scout, she has woven her expertise into the fabric of our community, nurturing the next generation of leaders.
Her role as a First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and a Volunteer Council Trainer has been pivotal in creating a safe and supportive environment for all. Elizabeth's enthusiasm and credibility have not only enriched our programs but have also fostered a sense of community among volunteers.
As she steps into a new role as a Red Cross Instructor Trainer this next membership year to mentor new cohorts of Red Cross volunteer trainers for Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, we are excited to see her mentorship expand, touching more lives and inspiring action.
Thank you, Elizabeth, for your unwavering commitment and for inspiring us all to champion girl ambition. Your leadership lights the way!
We're thrilled to highlight Jordan, whose story of leadership and dedication within the Girl Scouts community was submitted by a peer earlier this year.
Jordan embodies the Girl Scout spirit and brings an unwavering dedication to fostering ambition and among girls. As a member of the Junior Board, she's helped steer the group to success, especially through the 'Toast to Adventure' fundraiser.
Now, as she prepares to join the prestigious WAGGGS Juliette Low Seminar, Jordan is set to elevate her impact on gender equality and leadership for girls everywhere.
Let's applaud Jordan, a lifetime member and a lifelong inspiration.
The Junior League of Atlanta (JLA) has tirelessly dedicated their time to empower and uplift our communities. From organizing the Gold Award Ceremony to leading innovative STEM Expos and Cookie Rallies, they’ve supported the Girl Scouts in countless ways.
Their commitment shone brightly during the “Cultivating Your Village” workshop, where 50 aspiring Girl Scouts learned the power of relationships and networking from 13 inspiring JLA mentors.
The transformation of our girls into confident future leaders, ready to make small talk and big connections, was nothing short of magical.
Here’s to the JLA, the mentors of today nurturing the leaders of tomorrow!
As part of our ongoing series of celebrating our amazing volunteers across Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta this month, we shine the spotlight on Marnye Hall, a guiding force behind the Lime Green Giraffe.
The Lime Green Giraffe is a unique online publication by the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta that empowers young women to lead and express themselves. Published bi-annually with special coverage of Girl Scout events, it’s a platform where creativity meets leadership.
Marnye’s role as an advisor has been pivotal in fostering a space where girls can explore writing, reporting, and publishing in an environment that’s all about Girls, Info, Reports, Activities, Fun, Friends, and Excitement. Her commitment to the “Girl-Led” philosophy ensures that every member’s voice is heard and valued.
Big thank you to Marnye for guiding the Lime Green Giraffe with such passion and dedication!
Katie Nolan is a dedicated co-leader of Troop 21728, whose passion for Girl Scouting runs deep through generations. Katie proudly carries on the legacy of leadership passed down from her mother and grandmother, symbolized by the cherished Brownie Hats that connect three generations of Girl Scout leaders.
As a former staff member of the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois and now a vibrant part of the Greater Atlanta community, Katie’s journey half across the country has only strengthened her commitment to the movement. She leads with a heart full of enthusiasm for her daughter’s troop, which she fondly considers the best.
In her role as a Service Unit Director, Katie has been instrumental in fostering camaraderie among troop leaders, believing that mutual support enhances their collective leadership.
Her co-directorship at the Sassafras Day Camp encapsulates the enchantment of Girl Scouting, where the mission comes alive amidst the magic of adventure and friendship.
Katie’s story is not just about her own volunteerism; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the Girl Scouts that inspires the next generation. Her daughter, already envisioning her future as a leader, is poised to continue this beautiful tradition.
Join us in celebrating Katie Nolan, a third-generation troop leader whose love for Girl Scouting shines as a guiding light of generational empowerment and community service.
Meet Julie Keller, an extraordinary volunteer and an inspiring role model. As the dedicated leader of a vibrant group of Cadettes and Seniors, Julie embodies the Girl Scout spirit of empowerment and leadership. Her commitment to the “girl-led” philosophy is unwavering, encouraging her girls to take charge of their own activities and meetings.
Julie’s coaching prowess shines as she guides her troop members toward high awards, nurturing their growth and potential. But her impact extends beyond her own troop. Recognizing the importance of fostering connections among older girls, Julie founded the Trefoil Girl Volunteers committee within the Cowetawood service unit. This dynamic group brings together girls from sixth grade and up, allowing them to collaboratively plan Service Unit events and create memorable experiences. From journey-in-a-day events to celebrating World Thinking Days and organizing Camporees, Julie’s leadership leaves an indelible mark.
But Julie’s journey doesn’t stop there. She started as a leader for her own daughters, and when they bridged to adulthood, she knew she had more to give. With passion and dedication, she initiated a new Daisy troop alongside a friend, guiding them through the ranks to become Cadettes and Seniors. Beyond her troop, Julie selflessly serves as a Service Unit Volunteer, stepping in wherever her expertise is needed.
Julie Keller’s legacy is one of empowerment, mentorship, and community. Her commitment to Girl Scouting echoes through the generations, inspiring girls to lead, bond, and create lasting memories. Thank you, Julie!
As we thank our current volunteers for being the change-makers and cheerleaders, we also extend a warm invitation to those considering joining Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta as a volunteer. You don't need to be a parent; you just need to believe in the power of girls to change the world.
