Gifts That Reduce Your Taxes

A donor advised fund (DAF), which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts.

Donate Stocks and Securities

Gifts of appreciated stock or securities can provide you with the opportunity to make a substantial gift to our Council and use the gift as a charitable tax donation. Here are the simple steps to transferring appreciated stock and securities to the Council.

Naming Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401k or other qualified plans may help eliminate your income and estate taxes, reduce your retirement assets, and possibly avoid probate fees. Plus, there is no cost to you to give now!

How it works:

Name Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta as a beneficiary of your plan. All this requires is updating your beneficiary designation form through your plan administrator. You can designate Girl Scouts River Valleys as the primary beneficiary for a percentage or specific amount. You can also identify River Valleys as the contingent beneficiary to receive the balance of your plan only if your primary beneficiary does not survive you.
After your lifetime, the residue of your plan passes directly to Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta tax-free and to any other named heirs.

How it Works

You can name Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta as primary beneficiary of your life insurance policy or as contingent beneficiary should your other beneficiaries not survive you.

Here is the process:

Provide now for a future gift by naming Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta as beneficiary of a policy insuring your life.
At the time of death, the benefits pass to Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta free of federal estate tax and are applied to the program designated by the donor.

Double The Donation

Matching Gifts provide you with an easy way to potentially double, if not triple, your original donation! Many organizations supplement their employees’ contributions to some organizations (specifications of the match vary based upon each organization). Volunteer Service Grants

Volunteer Service Grants are corporate giving programs in which companies provide monetary donations to organizations where employees volunteer regularly. If you volunteer for the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta in any capacity, see if your company offers this amazing opportunity. Half of the funds received from volunteer service grants, up to $250, can go directly back to your troop!

If your company’s information did not appear, your employer may still have a matching gift or volunteer service grant program. Please contact your HR department to find out if your gift can be matched.

Make Girl Scout wishes come true!
One of the easiest ways to support Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is to shop through our wish list on Amazon. Buy the supplies girls need for use at camp, when earning badges, in troop meetings, and more from the convenience of home and items will be shipped directly to the Mableton Service Center!

Recycling clothing and household items toggle arrow

Clean out your closets for a good cause

Live up to the Girl Scout values of using resources wisely and making the world a better place by recycling any clothing and household items that you no longer need instead of throwing them away. You can find the collection bin in the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta Headquarters parking lot in Mableton. Items that are accepted in the bin include clothing, accessories, household linens, baby clothes, shoes, and more. See a full list of accepted items. Please make sure that all items are placed in trash bags before you drop them off in the bin.
