What a year it’s been! As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible stories, milestones, and achievements that made it a banner year for Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. Each of these moments is a testament to our mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. From honoring historic legacies to forging new paths, we’ve seen the power of Girl Scouts creating lasting impact in their communities.
The 100 Years of Girl Scouting in Atlanta exhibit at the Atlanta History Center showcased a century of empowering girls to lead. From October 2023 to May 2024, visitors marveled at artifacts like 1920s uniforms, STEM Expo robotics projects, and recordings of beloved camp songs. This exhibit reflected how Girl Scouts have evolved while staying true to their mission of shaping strong, trailblazing leaders. Relive the exhibit here.
In July 2024, we celebrated the legacy of Atlanta’s first Black Girl Scouts, the District V Troops, with a vibrant mural on Auburn Avenue. Depicting Civil Rights icon Dr. Roslyn Pope during her Girl Scout days, this powerful artwork honors a trailblazing group of girls who exemplified courage and resilience. This tribute connects our rich history with our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Learn more about the mural and its creation here.
Since 1924, Camp Timber Ridge has been a cornerstone of outdoor adventure, friendship, and leadership for generations of girls. This September, we celebrated 100 years of unforgettable experiences at one of the nation’s oldest Girl Scout camps. Activities like archery, canoeing, and tower climbing continue to build skills and confidence, connecting girls to nature and each other. Check out our birthday recap here.
Summer 2024 marked an exciting new chapter with the arrival of Jai Ferrell as our CEO. A lifelong Girl Scout from our council, Jai embodies our mission and brings a bold vision for engaging and empowering even more girls across our communities. Her leadership is already energizing the movement as we aspire to reach new heights in 2025 and beyond. Watch Jai’s WSB-TV interview here.
Girl Scouts shine in their communities in countless ways, and 2024 was no exception. From service projects to advocacy initiatives, girls across Greater Atlanta have exemplified the power of courage, confidence, and character.
One standout was Sara G., who earned recognition as an Atlanta Journal-Constitution Everyday Hero for her inspiring project brightening the lives of pediatric hospital patients. But Sara is just one example of the incredible work happening across our council.
This year, dozens of Girl Scouts earned their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards—the highest achievements in Girl Scouting. These projects addressed critical issues such as mental health awareness, environmental conservation, and support for underserved communities. Each award recipient not only demonstrated innovative problem-solving but also left a lasting impact.
We also celebrated the accomplishments of our Unstoppable Girl Scouts, who received recognition for academic excellence, volunteerism, and leadership. These girls embody the spirit of Girl Scouting, using their skills and talents to make meaningful change.
Whether they’re earning awards, launching service projects, or inspiring others through everyday acts of kindness, our Girl Scouts are a force for good in their communities. Discover more inspiring stories in our newsroom.
