Dip your toes into dragon boating!  Join our partners, Lake Acworth Dragons, to discover the team sport of dragon boating.  Learn about the history of this sport, the boat, equipment, and safety.  Then join a team of Girl Scouts to paddle a dragon boat on the water!  Celebrate your team effort and competitive spirit with a snack and origami craft.

Dragon boating is a team paddling sport where crews race in long, narrow boat by paddling in sync with the beat of a drum.  This sport originated in China more than 2,000 years ago, and is now a popular global sport that promotes teamwork, fitness, and community

Logistics:

This event is outdoors, on a beach, and will involve boating on Lake Acworth.  Wear clothing suitable for sand, water, and the weather- including water shoes and a windbreaker or jacket.  Bring a towel and small blanket.  Water gloves may be helpful, but are optional. Reusable water bottles are highly encouraged

Audience:

This program is for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors (grades 4-12). Each Girl Scout must be accompanied by an adult (parent, guardian, or Troop Leader), within typical safety ratios. Siblings and friends within the same age range are welcome to join; please include them in the registration.  We need a number of registered Girl Scout adults (Troop Leaders) to join us on the dragon boats to help us maintain safety ratios.

Pricing:

Thanks to our partners, the Lake Acworth Dragons, we are able to offer this program at a reduced cost. Non-participating adults should plan on observing this activity while their Girl Scout participates. This small fee allows non-participating adults to join us for snack breaks and to receive a fun patch (if provided).
