Attention Girl Scouts! Enjoy a day at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library & Museum. Using the Constitution, constitutional amendments, and legislation, students will explore the history of voting rights in the United States and its impact on representative government. Photographs, documents and political cartoons from the National Archives will illustrate how ordinary Americans like themselves can exercise their rights and create change just like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., John Lewis and so many others did before them. Girl Scouts can earn portions of their Democracy badges or simply enjoy a morning at the museum and garden.
This program is a civics-based education program open for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors, and will be hosted by our partners at the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in midtown Atlanta. Museum educators will guide Girl Scouts through a large group presentation that starts promptly at 10am. This will be followed by a self-guided museum scavenger hunt and chance to explore the garden and complete a nature journal. The amazing library and museum are surrounded by 35 acres of ponds, local wildlife and rolling grounds for you to explore. Don’t miss the chance to visit Jimmy Carter's Oval Office, see a Nobel Peace Prize, and learn about our country's only President from Georgia!
Each Girl Scout must be accompanied by an adult (parent, guardian, or Troop Leader) within typical safety ratios. Siblings within the same age range are welcome; please include them in this registration. All Girl Scouts will receive a special Jimmy Carter Library and Museum fun patch.
This is NOT a drop-off event. Due to the nature of this program, adults need to purchase a ticket for themselves and any additional adults or siblings that will be in attendance. Adults will have an opportunity to engage in the program experience alongside their Girl Scouts, helping to reinforce new concepts, learning, exploration, and development. We encourage you to be ENGAGED, let your GIRL SCOUT take the LEAD, and HAVE FUN!
