Red Pride (WAGGGS)

Menstruation is a normal biological part of a young woman’s life – PERIOD. But for millions of girls around the world (including the USA), managing their monthly menstrual cycle and society’s rules is a major barrier to them making the most out of their life. The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is working with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts through education and advocacy campaigns to empower girls and to find solutions. WAGGGS has  a brochure to download at https://www.wagggs.org/en/resources/menstrual-hygiene-management-brochure/

Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day) is marked on 28 May each year. It is a global advocacy platform that brings together voices and actions from around the world, promoting good menstrual hygiene management (MHM) for all women and girls. MH Day:

 ● breaks the silence, raises awareness, and changes negative social norms around MHM, and

● engages decision-makers to increase the political priority and take action for MHM at global, national and local levels.

Red Pride Week is the 5 days leading up to MH Day on 28 May. The 2021 Red Pride Week activities from WAGGGS are at https://duz92c7qaoni3.cloudfront.net/documents/WAGGGS_2021_Red_Pride_Week_Activities-_ENGLISH.pdf  Check back for 2022 activities and resources at

Did You Know?  Most girls get their first period when they're between 10 and 15 years old. The average age is 12, but every girl's body has its own schedule.

*Interesting Fact: May 28 was chosen to observe Menstrual Hygiene Day because on average the menstrual cycle for most women is 28 days in length and the menstruation period for most women is for five days each month. Hence, the date was chosen as 28/5 (European style) or 5/28 in the USA.
