Join our partners at Blue Heron Nature Preserve to learn the fundamentals of hiking! Girl Scouts will learn about being prepared, safety precautions, and Leave No Trace, leaving them ready to embark on their own hiking adventure! This workshop begins with a planning session to discuss supplies, gear, shoes, and more. Then discover how to Leave No Trace while you're out on the trail. Finally, you'll hit the trails of Blue Heron Nature Preserve to put your new skills to the test! Along the way, you can discover more of the flora and fauna that call this unique urban oasis home. This event will provide the knowledge and confidence to explore the great outdoors responsibly. Bring your curiosity, your adventurous spirit, and your love for nature!
Be Prepared! Dress for the weather and expect to be outside for the entire program. Bring a backpack and water bottle with you. Wear closed-toe shoes and a few layers in case the temperature changes. This event will be held rain or shine.
This program is for Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts (K-3rd grade). This workshop will be hosted at the Blue Heron Nature Preserve. Each Girl Scout must be accompanied by an adult (parent, guardian, or Troop Leader). No siblings please, as space is limited. The $25 admissions fee includes the workshop experience, the hiking badge, and the Blue Heron Nature Preserve fun patch! All questions can be directed to us at STEM@gsgatl.org
